School’s out for summer, which makes it the perfect time to gather the kids into your Hyundai and hit the open road. To ensure your road trip is a safe one, we’ve put together some summer road trip safety tips you should keep in mind.
Prepare for bad weather. Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean there won’t be inclement weather. Understand how you should drive when a summer rain storm hits, lengthening the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you to ensure plenty of room to brake.
Watch out for wildlife. Animals tend to be more active
during the summer. Because of this, you should keep an eye out, especially at
dawn and dusk. Look on either sides of the road as you’re driving and pay
attention to the road reflectors — if they’re flickering in the dark, that
typically means an animal is walking in front of them.
Stay alert no matter the terrain. Canada is known for
offering a wide range of terrain, from mountains to prairies. Take steps to
stay alert no matter where you’re driving. Prepare to stave off boredom with
podcasts, audio books, great tunes, or some fun games you can play with your
passengers. Also, make sure you take frequent breaks to fight fatigue.
