Hyundai Ties for Most IIHS Top Safety Pick Awards

2020 Hyundai IIHS Safety Scores | Toronto, ON

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an organization that has helped create the benchmark for automotive safety in North America. Its Top Safety Pick awards are only given to vehicles that can pass their stringent tests. Hyundai has tied for the most IIHS Top Safety Pick awards in the automotive industry this year, boasting nine models that earned the honour.

The most notable is the all-new Hyundai Nexo fuel cell SUV. This model was one of six Top Safety Pick+ (the highest accolade given out by the IIHS) winners to come standard with headlights that have received the organization’s highest rating of “Good”. The “Good” rating indicates that the vehicle’s lights provides solid visibility, while also lacking excessive glare that could affect drivers in oncoming vehicles.

Along with the Nexo, the IIHS also recognized eight other Hyundai models with their Top Safety Pick accolade. These vehicles include:

  • Hyundai Kona when equipped with optional front crash protection and optional LED headlights
  • Hyundai Tucson when equipped with optional front crash protection and optional LED headlights
  • Hyundai Palisade when equipped with optional LED headlights
  • Hyundai Santa Fe when equipped with optional LED headlights
  • Hyundai Elantra when equipped with optional front crash protection and optional LED headlights

These prestigious accolades strive to discover the best vehicles in 17 categories, putting a range of eligible models through the wringer to discover which options top the industry. This year, three Hyundai models — the 2020 Kona, 2020 Kona Electric, and 2020 Santa Fe — won their segments.
