2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Boasts Solar Roof

2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid - Toronto, ON

Hyundai is looking to change up the green-car industry with the release of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. This hybrid vehicle boasts multiple Hyundai firsts, helping it stand out from the competition.

The 2020 Sonata Hybrid comes with a solar-roof system, which utilizes solar panels to help the hybrid’s battery recharge. This system can not only recharge the battery, but also allows the Sonata Hybrid to achieve an extra 1,300 km of travel distance a year. That could add about 3.5 kilometres to the Sonata’s range for every six hours of sunshine the hybrid receives.

This hybrid is also the first Hyundai to be equipped with new Active Shift Control technology, which aligns rotational speeds of the engine and transmission. This allows the gear-shift time to be cut down by 30 percent, leading to better fuel efficiency, faster acceleration, and a more durable transmission.

The Sonata Hybrid carries a 2.0-litre gasoline engine that puts out 150 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with an electric motor that creates 51 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. The total system output equals 192 horsepower.

You can expect the 2020 Sonata Hybrid to roll into dealerships — including Downtown Hyundai — sometime this fall.
