IONIQ 5 Named Car and Driver EV of the Year | Toronto, ON

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is impressive on its own, but it’s always nice when highly regarded publications recognize our vehicles. Car and Driver recently named the 2022 IONIQ 5 its “EV of the Year,” beating out 19 top-rated competitors along the way.

“The IONIQ 5 is an attractive proposition for buyers who desire the performance, range, and charging speeds of far more expensive EVs at an accessible price,” said Tony Quiroga, editor-in-chief at Car and Driver.

Similar to the Car and Driver 10Best list, this coveted award adheres to the following criteria to determine a winner: Fun to Drive, Technology Advancement, Mission Fulfillment, and Value. With its starting price of $47,550 CAD, the IONIQ 5 is much more affordable than EVs of a similar caliber.[1] In fact, the Hyundai EV beat luxury competitors like the BMW i4, Cadillac Lyriq, Mercedes EQS, and Audi e-tron GT — all of which cost at least $20k more than the IONIQ 5.

Outside of the money you’ll save by choosing the IONIQ 5, the Car and Driver editor Ezra Dyer praised the EV for its futuristic appeal and its confidence to be its own vehicle thanks to features like a power leg rest and the sliding centre console.
