Hyundai Tucson Named Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year

Hyundai Tucson Named Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year | Toronto, ON

There are so many reasons to love the Hyundai Tucson, and the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada agrees. The 2022 Tucson was recently named the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year by the AJAC and it’s quite significant for the Hyundai brand.

“This award is exceptionally meaningful for us, because the new Tucson represents Hyundai’s full-spectrum eco-powertrain approach – offering internal combustion, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models in a high-volume compact SUV. With all-wheel-drive capability; hybrid and plug-in hybrid options; customers no longer need to choose between all-road, all-weather capability and outstanding efficiency,” said Don Romano, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada.

The Tucson was praised by the AJAC for its overall value, quiet and well-styled interior, and its advanced safety features. In addition to the Tucson being recognized by the AJAC, the all-new Hyundai Santa Cruz was named the 2022 Best Small Pick-Up Truck in Canada. The AJAC jury noted that the boldly designed Hyundai truck featured incredible vehicle dynamics and great powertrain performance.

Steve Flamand, director of product corporate strategy at Hyundai Auto Canada said, “Hyundai took a bold step in new segment territory with Santa Cruz, with the intention of satisfying a combination of needs for customers, namely those looking for the capability of a truck, but the efficiency and versatility of an SUV.”

Tucson, IONIQ 5 Join Spider-Man on the Big Screen

2021 Hyundai IONIQ | Toronto, ON

Did you know that a recent superhero film included cameos from two Hyundai vehicles? The all-new IONIQ 5 and all-new Tucson both made brief appearances in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” as part of an exciting partnership between Sony Pictures and Hyundai.

Leading up to the film’s release last December, a pair of commercials aired online and on televisions globally. The long-form “Only Way Home” commercial stars Tom Holland as a stranded Peter Parker after the events of the previous film. As he’s suited up as Spider-Man and walking along a deserted highway, his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) pulls up in the all-electric IONIQ 5 to take Peter back to New York City to face his fate.

The second commercial includes actual clips from “No Way Home,” with Peter standing atop the new Tucson as he prepares to face a villain. Additional footage of the Tucson zooming through city streets accompanies the film scenes, with a disclaimer unfortunately stating that web shooters are not included with the sporty SUV.

This isn’t the first time Hyundai vehicles have partnered with superheroes — and it won’t be the last. A custom Hyundai Veloster appeared in “Ant-Man and the Wasp” as Ant-Man’s getaway vehicle. Hyundai also has campaigns for the new “Uncharted” film as well as the upcoming “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One),” set to debut in October.

Our team at Downtown Hyundai in Toronto, Ontario, is always excited to see Hyundai vehicles getting in the spotlight of major motion pictures. Come visit us to drive your own movie star of a vehicle home today.

How to Get Better Gas Mileage This Winter

Gas Mileage, Toronto, ON

Did you know that your vehicle’s gas mileage can get worse during winter? With harsher temperatures and tougher road conditions here in Toronto, your car has to do more work — and use more gas — to get you to your destination. Here are some tips for getting better gas mileage this winter.

Stop Idling Before Leaving

While it may seem like a good idea to “warm up” your car before going to work, you’re actually just wasting gas by idling. Your vehicle is much more likely to get warmer and defrost faster as you drive it. Obviously, you will want to be sure to have a clear, safe view before heading out.

Check On The Tires

Believe it or not, your car’s tires contribute to fuel efficiency. When the temperatures drop significantly, the air pressure in your vehicle’s tires can change. If they are underinflated — or overinflated, for that matter — they won’t provide good traction on icy or slippery roads. As a result, your vehicle has to work harder to keep you safe and use more gas.

These are just a couple of tips for improving your vehicle’s fuel efficiency during winter. For more tips on keeping your vehicle in top shape, contact our team at Downtown Hyundai in Toronto, Ontario.

Hyundai Showcases New Models at Montreal and Quebec EV Shows

Tuscon PHEV | Toronto, ON

Automakers often attend various auto shows to introduce their lineup of advanced vehicles to critics and the public. Hyundai recently made appearances at both the Montreal and Quebec EV shows to display a few innovative vehicles of its own.

For the first time in Quebec, the leader in EV adoption in Canada, the fully-electric IONIQ 5 CUV was on display. This efficient vehicle offers a driving range of 470-480 km and can be charged up to 80 percent in only 18 minutes. Additionally, a quick 5-minute charge gives you 100 km of range.

Also in attendance was the Kona Electric, which was refreshed for the 2022 model year. This EV was available for test drives in the Road Test Zone, allowing visitors to experience the comfortable and advanced interior of the subcompact crossover. The Hydrogen-powered NEXO caught the attention of many, as it is just one of two vehicles of its kind currently available in Canada and offers an outstanding estimated 570 km of range.

There were also a few hybrid vehicles at the auto shows, including the Tucson PHEV, Santa Fe PHEV, and the Elantra Hybrid. These three models represent the versatility of Hyundai’s eco-friendly lineup of a compact crossover, midsize SUV, and sedan.

Hyundai Introduces New Elantra N Performance Sedan

2022 Hyundai Elantra N | Toronto, ON

An exciting new development is in the works. Hyundai recently introduced the all-new Elantra N performance sedan. Joining the Kona and Tucson, the Elantra is the latest model to receive these exhilarating style and powertrain updates.

“Hyundai Motor’s high-performance N brand constantly aims to provide customers with a range of exciting choices for increased driving pleasure,” said Till Wartenberg, Vice President and Head of N Brand Management & Motorsport sub-division at Hyundai Motor Company. “ELANTRA N is the purest expression of our mission to date.”

Thrilling Performance

Under the hood of the new Elantra N is a turbocharged 2.0-litre direct-injection engine that delivers 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque with the available N eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (N DCT). You can temporarily amp up the Elantra N to 286 horsepower with N Grin Shift (NGS), which boosts the pressure to give you more power. The standard transmission is a close-ratio six-speed manual that offers a more classic feel when shifting. Additional high-performance standard features include the N Corner Carving Differential, a Variable Exhaust Valve System, and Launch Control.

Exceptional Style

Complementing the sporty performance of the Elantra N is its athletic style — inside and out. The exterior takes on a more aggressive appearance thanks to a lip spoiler on the lower fascia as well as the N-exclusive red strip that starts in the front and continues to the side valance. The rear features an N-exclusive wing spoiler with a rear diffuser that helps with airflow for improved aerodynamics. Inside, N-branded elements can be found on the steering wheel, seats, gear shifter, metal pedals, and door scuff panels.
